The Cataract Detection Camp was held at our project building on the 18th of February 2007. In association with Rotary Club of North Calcutta.
About 170 patients were examined. The programme started around 10.00 a.m. Most of the members of SBDCH were present to volunteer this programme. A group of about ten doctors and technicians came to do the check-ups from eye hospital. The doctors were very kind and helpful to the people, which made them feel that they were in safe hands because many of them were very old. 62 people we diagnosed with cataract. They all were provided microsurgery (Intra Ocular Lens) completely free of cost.
The people who were detected with cataract were taken to the hospital by hospital car for their operation. At the hospital they are provided free stay and food. The next day after the operation, they are made to rest for about 2 to 3 hours and then they were brought back by hospital care to our society. For follow-up they either go to the hospital or they come to our Out Patient Clinic. All the expenses including food, stay, operation, conveyance were borne by Rotary Club of North Calcutta. We really felt happy and glad that we could at least give them their sight back, and that was the biggest success for us.
